Monica Guerritore will be Anna Magnani: her Performances are Works of Art
About the Film Project
Monica Guerritore, renowned Italian actress, will not only play Anna Magnani, but also write, direct, and produce the film through her own production company LUMINAMGR, together with her husband Roberto Zaccaria (lavocedinewyork.com).
The film is not a traditional biopic, but rather a visionary story that explores the inner world, passion, and artistic strength of Magnani — set in a dreamlike version of Rome the night she won the Oscar.
Financing & Crowdfunding
The project has already received support from the Italian Ministry of Culture, RAI Cinema, Swiss co-producer Catpix, and Masi Film Srl (lavocedinewyork.com).
To complete financing, an international crowdfunding campaign was launched through platforms like Kickstarter — aimed at both Italian and American supporters.
It was recently reported that the campaign raised around €500,000, giving the project a major boost (corriere.it).
Creative Process & Audience Involvement
Guerritore hosted public script readings in several Italian theaters in a “focus group” format, allowing the audience to actively contribute to the script’s development.
The film was co-written with Andrea Purgatori, who passed away shortly before production. Guerritore dedicated the project to him and created a public tribute online.
In short: Monica Guerritore is crafting a bold and emotionally powerful tribute to Anna Magnani, combining international crowdfunding, public collaboration, and a visionary approach that transcends both film and theater.
